History:  Robert Drake, or Bobby as he preferred to be known, was born with the latent mutant ability to lower temperatures around him to below freezing. He slowly became aware of this power as it emerged in his adolescence, but kept it secret from everyone but his parents, who believed people would turn against young Robert if they learned of his power.
Bobby's parents were proved correct one night when Bobby was walking with his date, Judy Harmon, after they had seen a movie together. They were attacked by a bully from school named Rocky Beasely and his friends. One of Beasely's allies held onto Bobby while Beasely himself started to force himself onto Harmon. To save her, Bobby used his mutant power to temporarily encase Beasely's legs in ice (a level of his power he has not reached before or since). Beasely was soon released unharmed, but Harmon was shocked, and the news of the incident swept through Drake's Long Island community, enraging local townspeople enough for them to form a lynch mob.
The mob broke into Drake's home, and he began using his powers to fight them off. But there were too many opponents for the young Drake, and the town's sheriff took him into custody for the youth's own protection, leaving him with two broken ribs, a broken arm, a shattered kneecap, and multiple stitches.
Fearing for their son's as well as their own safety, the Drakes moved to Nevada as soon as Bobby was deemed well enough to travel. So at the age of 16, Bobby was forced to give up his entire life and try and go through physical rehabilitation in a strange town, just because he was a mutant.  It was the Drakes' hope that the arid desert climate would put a damper on Bobby's powers unintentionally activating.  Bobby returned to high school, having missed half a year due to his injuries, only to find that the climate of the tiny town was little warmer toward a strange unknown boy who walked with a cane than it might have been toward an exposed mutant.

Personality:  Bobby is shy around people and often finds himself unsure of what to say or do, so he tries to use humor as a defense mechanism, believing the only way he can gain approval is to distract people's attention from what his perceived faults are, or to be the first to make light of himself. Even around those he's comfortable with, he finds himself unsure of what to do, so often resorts back to humor. Bobby's insecurity leads him to often doubt others' motives in associating with him, and to overanalyze the way anyone treats him.
